Merrell Capra Hiking Shoes Review

Are The Relaxed Merrell Capra Gore-tex Hiking Shoes Supportive Enough?

Merrell Men's Capra Gore-Tex Low Rise Hiking ShoesOne thing that instantly stands out about these Merrell Capra Gore-tex Hiking Shoes is that there is a much more relaxed look than you get with a more traditional hiking boot.

There is a synthetic upper with mesh panels, a low-rise shape and a sole that looks more like that of a training shoe.

That said, there are still some key points in the specification. So, is this more reliable for any keen walker than you might think?

The Pros and Cons of this Merrell Men’s Capra Gore-tex Low Rise Hiking Shoes.

Pros:

  •  The fun relaxed fit for comfort
  •  The breathable mesh panels
  •  The shock-absorbency in the insole

Cons:

  •  Mixed comments on the waterproofing
  •  Not enough ankle support because of the shape

These Merrell Capra Gore-tex Hiking Shoes could be the more relaxed option that casual hikers need.

Let’s start with all of the protective elements that you get in these Merrell hiking shoes. Those mesh panels in the uppers have a breathable material this is great for allowing cool air in for greater comfort. The synthetic leather parts are durable with a waterproof coating. When you add in the Gore-tex membrane, you get even more protection on wetter days.

However, there are some smaller flaws that you will see below. That sneaker-like sole has a good tread for better grip on those days when the weather could be better. And, while there is that low-rise design, there is also a secure lace-up closure to stop the wind and rain getting in.

When it comes to comfort, there is an air cushion in the insole for shock-absorbency Most wearers seem to be happy with the fit and feel of the shoe and could wear them for long periods.

This could be down to the lack of weight and that more relaxed feel. However, there are others that aren’t sure that this will be their go-to pair for all occasions.

Not all serious hikers will get along with this Merrell Capra Gore-tex Walking Boot.

One of the potential problems here is while there are this protective layer and a little waterproofing, it doesn’t go as far as others for protection against the elements.

The low-rise shape is more likely to lead to water coming in and there is a gap between the tongue and shoe, which doesn’t help when you end up in a puddle. The other possible issue here is the lack of support.

There are some that struggle to wear these long term while walking because there is no ankle support at all. There also isn’t that much rigidity in the sole for arch support.

Is this Merrell Relaxed Hiking Shoe still recommendable with all this in mind?

The appeal of these hiking shoes comes down to your preferences and needs. If you need something that is an all-weather shoe that is tough and supportive, this might be too relaxed and weak.

But, if you struggle with the rigidity and weight of other shoes, this Merrell walking boots could be a good three-season option.
