The Pros and Cons of this Helly Hansen The Forester Hiking Boot.

Pros:

  •  The strong construction with the thick leather upper and lace-up closure.
  •  It keeps feet nice and dry in bad weather.
  •  It also looks good at the same time with the two-tone design.

Cons:

  •  The focus on a thick weatherproof upper could limit breathability.
  •  Some find the grip isn’t ideal on some surfaces.

The Helly Hansen The Forester Hiking Boots do live up to the claim with a fun design and great waterproofing.

Let’s start with the idea of this being a rainboot. There is the promise that this is fully waterproof with the strong leather uppers and the construction across the foot. There is no mesh where water might seep in with time and there aren’t many seems that could weaken.

You also seem to get a nice fit around the top of the foot with the lace-up closure and tongue, which should prevent water from coming in over the top from puddles.

The possible downside here is a lack of breathability, but it seems to be a good trade-off for a shoe strictly for bad weather.

Then there is the idea of this being fun and stylish. There is certainly a sense of style with the trademark two-tone design.

This also provides the illusion that this walking boot isn’t so big and heavy as it breaks up the leather into those two sections.

You get this sweeping shape on all versions of the boot. However, some have more of a contrast in colour than others. The range means that you should find something that suits your tastes.

There aren’t too many negative comments about this Helly Hansen The Forester.

Aside from the aforementioned lack of breathability, there is the issue of the grip. While comments are rare, some do find that the tread on the rubber sole isn’t ideal for urban environments like wet pavements.

It is possible that this reviewer needed to break the shoe in a little. From there, there is little to worry about as the comments about the comfort and fit are also limited and subjective.

Could this Helly Hansen Walking Shoe be the ideal “rainboot” for your wardrobe?

This shoe may not be the go-to pair that you choose for any long hike or adventure over the year. The fit and construction with the leather and weatherproofing are better suited for wetter seasons and shorter walks.

But, the quality of the waterproofing and the details in the build and design do mean that this could be a great choice for dog walkers or for just dodging the rain in the worst of winter.

There is a lot to like about the Helly Hansen hiking boots and it should be easy to find a version you will love to wear.
