Berghaus Hillmaster 2 GTX Boot

Is The Men’s Hillmaster 2 Gore-Tex Walking Boots Tough Enough?

Berghaus Men's Hillmaster II Gore-Tex Walking BootsThe Berghaus Hillmaster 2 GTX Walking Boots look as though they mean business. This is a large shoe that looks like it should be able to handle rough terrain and weather thanks to the thick sole and copious amounts of leather around the uppers and ankles.

This lace up boot also looks fairly stylish with the simple two-tone design in either chocolate or coffee brown.

The specification sounds great for those heading out on long treks, but does it do enough.

The Pros and Cons of this Berghaus Men’s Hillmaster II Gore-Tex Walking Boots:

Pros:

  • the comfort features for long walks
  • the support offered to protect the foot
  • the apparent weatherproofing for bad days

Cons:

  • occasional issues with the grip and weight
  • Some sizing problems compared to similar boots.

This Berghaus Hillmaster 2 GTX Boot is pretty comfortable reliable for those longer walks.

First of all, it should be noted that this is the Hillmaster from Berhaus, not the Hillwaker. This immediately suggests a tougher, more capable shoe. The spec and reviews show that this is the case. This shoe has a shock absorbing PU midsole, rather than an EVA one.

There is also the use of full grain leather, gore-tex and sheepskin for protection and comfort. Users are impressed with the support offered with this shoe. The strong leather around the top of the foot and ankle means that it is more difficult to turn an ankle.

The cushioned footbed is also removable so that wearers can add personal orthotics and other support systems as needed. The comfort continues with the memory foam collar and tongue.

This all means long lasting comfort and support for those hill walking adventures. Overall, most users are impressed with the Berghaus walking boots and are happy to wear this quite often.

This tough Berghaus GTX boot is still pretty heavy and a bit narrow.

There are some downsides to these boots that new buyers need to be aware of. First of all, there is the weight of the shoe. These hillmasters weigh 1482g compared to the 1202g of the hillwalker. This can be a bit of a shock for those used to the other model.

There are also occasional criticisms about the grip on the sole and the narrow fit of the boot. There is a warning that the fit is narrow/standard, but this still catches some buyers out. It may help to order a size up.

Does this lack of criticism mean that this Berghaus Hillmaster 2 is recommendable?

The downsides experienced here are fairly minimal and down to personal experience. The grip issue isn’t the case for many that use this hiking boots in their intended environment. The weight is something that many wearers can get used to.

The fit is something to take into account when choosing a size. These factors aside, this is an impressive, rugged shoe with some great comfort features and lots of support. There is no doubt that the Berghaus walking boots will live up to its name in the eyes of many buyers.
